Factory Environmental Impact Assessment & Risk Analysis

Impacts Identification & Mitigation Measures:

Identification of aspect and significant impacts due to the operation of the factory has been done using Checklist. Checklists are comprehensive lists of environmental aspects and impacts indicator designed to stimulate the analysis & to think broadly about possible consequences of contemplated actions (Munn, 1979).  The evaluation of the impacts has  been done  using following impact assessment matrix. The significance of environmental impact is the product of two factors, namely probability of occurrence and severity of effects.  Table -6.1 represents the checklists/ Impact Summary Matrix developed for the factory. In order prepare the checklist and further to analyze associated Environmental impacts due to the project, multi-disciplinary team from the consultant’s side have visited the existing project site, closely identified activities of the project and significant environmental components that may be affected by the project. As an existing facility only impacts from operational activities has been considered. In this matrix textile operational activities which may create the Environmental Impacts are shown. The terms none, minor, moderate, major, short termed and long termed are used in checklists to classify the magnitude and duration of impacts. Generalized mitigation and enhancement measures have also been presented in the table.  It can be observed from the checklists that the major activities, which have the potential of creating moderate/major SEIs either negative or positive are, water, air and noise pollution and employment.

Potential Environmental Risk Assessment

A risk assessment has been accomplished Factory In the risk matrix, for each potential hazard, the strategy of examining the “consequence” prior to the “probability” is conducted to ensure the implications are not overlooked purely because a hazard is assessed as lower likelihood of occurrence. A simple assessment of L (Low), M (Medium), H (High) is used for the assessment of probability of the occurrence.
